Flossing is an essential part of the tooth cleaning process because it removes the plaque from between teeth and just below the gumline, where periodontal disease often begins.
Within Dentqiue we recommend the following flossing techniques;
1) Wind 30cm of floss around your middle finger of each hand until you have a 10cm length between them.
2) Pinch the remainder part of the floss with the thumbs and leaving 2-3cm in between.
3) Keep the floss taut and gently guide the floss between the teeth using a zig zag motion.
4) Once through the contact point, curve the floss around each tooth in a 'C' shape, wipe each tooth surface and under the gumline.
5) Floss each tooth thoroughly with a clean section of floss.
If you find using floss awkward or difficult, ask Dr Dennis Teoh or one of our hygienists about a variety of floss holders or devices that are available.
